Who is Carole?

carole-billingsley-about-me-profileHey there! Thanks for visiting The Carole Show!

I’m Carole Billingsley.

I’m a mom, daughter, writer, teacher, music lover, follower of Christ, and all around cool chick (or so I’ve been told!) from Houston, Texas. I’m a very passionate girl with strong opinions.

There are those who believe I’m overly opinionated, but is that even possible? I think what they mean is that they wish I’d stop talking about my opinions. I get that. I often wish those same people would stop talking about their opinions. But, hey, this is ‘Merica…so we’re all free to say what we think. I always try to be respectful of others regardless of how much we disagree. In the end, though, it’s a safe bet that you won’t walk away wondering how I feel on a given topic.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a Master’s in Human Services. I’ve had quite a varied professional career. I’ve worked in the music and film industries, taught elementary school, and was an emergency preparedness and response program specialist/trainer for an international non-profit, post-Hurricane Ike. For the past three years I’ve been a social media consultant to entrepreneurs and small- to mid-sized businesses.

I’ve just turned 56-years-old. I spent a lot of years suppressing my opinions for fear of what others would think, but I’ve finally come to the realization that my opinion matters. I matter. I have a voice and I hope to use it to make some positive change in the world.

I’m in the process of writing my (future bestselling!) memoir, but there are so many topics that fill my brain on a daily basis that I decided to start this blog to have a home for my personal opinions, thoughts, observations, and occasional rants. I hope you find something here that resonates with you.

Be forewarned! Some serious topics you’ll find here are: US politics (some call me a liberal! eek!), the state of Christianity in the US (as a faithful Christian, this is a biggie for me!), white privilege and racism, and equal rights for everyone (I could go on, but then there’d be no reason for you to read the blog, right?). In many ways, these issues are tied together which is something I’ll address often. My intent is to share my views backed with facts. I like facts. A lot. I also like finding facts…some people call that research. I call it fun. Weird, I know.

There will most likely be some talk of Dave Grohl, Stevie Nicks, and my other favorite musicians, of which there are many. Music speaks to and heals my soul and I thank God for the gift of music!! I’m sort of cuckoo for Dave Grohl. His music, his love of music history, his intense love of creating music, and the fact that he’s an all around cool dude. And smart. Very smart. Oh, and not too hard on the eyes, amiright, ladies? <wink wink> No disrespect to Mrs. Grohl; I’m sure she’s aware of her husband’s awesomeness.

I also love, love, LOVE to laugh – another gift that I thank the Lord for – and I hope that I can make you laugh once in a while, too. I have a sarcastic wit. I think some call that being a smart-ass? Smart-ass or not, I will never intentionally disrespect anyone. If you feel disrespected by what I write, I hope you’ll tell me. Ha! Who am I kidding? This is the internet. Of course you’ll tell me!

Stop by any time and check out my latest musings and insights…and don’t forget to let me know what you think by leaving a comment. I’m always interested to hear other people’s opinions and am always happy to have a conversation whether we agree or not.
